Tobias Steinberger (*1989 in Tyrol, Austria) is a percussionist and Multiinstrumentalist.
He studied classical percussion at the Mozarteum University Salzburg (Innsbruck) with Mag. Gunnar Fras, jazz drums at the Tyrolean State Conservatory with Georg Tausch, and completed his Master’s degree in Jazz Percussion at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz in 2017, studying with Stephan Maass.
A central influence on his development as a percussionist was his intensive private study of frame drums and hand percussion techniques with Jarrod Cagwin.
His musical work moves between Jazz, Early Music, World Music, Pop and contemporary sound worlds. Steinberger combines traditional playing techniques from different musical cultures with individually developed percussion setups and a strong engagement with sound, rhythm and texture.
